Complex MetaCentrum workload traces available now

New complex workload traces from the Czech National Grid Infrastructure MetaCentrum have been published. The data sets contains:

job descriptions (103656 jobs)
node descriptions (14 clusters, 806 CPUs)
list of queues
descriptions of machines in maintenance (failures & upgrades)
descriptions of dedicated and reserved machines

Alea 2 - new version of Grid and cluster scheduling simulator

New version of Alea Grid and cluster scheduling simulator was published. It supports several new features such as visualization, resource failures, several workload trace formats and more.

Demonstration of low latency HD video transmission at symposium Networked Visualization for e-Science

As a part of Networked Visualization for e-Science symposium live uncompressed HD video transmission was demonstrated. Software UltraGrid was used for streaming live video from The Laboratory of Advanced Networking Technologies to SAGE tiled screen at SARA computer and network center. Both places were interconnected through CzechLight’s, StarLight’s and NehterLight’s high-speed fibre links.

The symposium was organized on the occasion of the visit of prof. Thomas DeFanti to the University of Amsterdam. Prof. DeFanti is well known for his groundbreaking work in computer graphics and visualisation and is one of the inventors of the CAVE.

CoUniverse Demonstrations at Spring 2009 Internet2 Member Meeting

We took part in another two demonstrations of CoUniverse at Spring 2009 Internet2 Member Meeting held in Arlington, VA. Both demonstrations were medical-oriented. The first demo connected the showfloor with National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, MD while the second one demonstrated a collaboration with Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX. The aim of both demostrations was to showhow a “user” can request a capatbility without understanding the technical details of what needs to be setup and how. We have successfully demonstrated that CoUniverse is able to initialize and handle a Dynamic Circuit Network based infrastructure and setup and orchestrate all the videoconferencing SW and HW (UltraGrid and Polycom devices) on top of such infrastructure.

CoUniverse Demo at Winter 2009 I2 Joint Techs

From Internet2 Showcases: Internet2, Sitola - the Laboratory of Advanced Networking Technologies at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic, CESNET in the Czech Republic, LEARN, and Texas A&M University have demonstrated the use of Dynamic Circuit Networks to enable an UltraGrid high-definition video application at the ESCC/Internet2 Joint Techs Workshop. For the first time, this demo have showcased the use of the CoUniverse middleware application for dynamic set up of circuits across several administrative domains including Texas A&M University, LEARN, and Internet2.

Our laboratory took part in the SuperComputing 08 Bandwidth Challenge as a part of a team led by Electronic Visualization Lab of UIC. The team made it to the Bandwodth Challenge finals. We have contributed with direct to SAGE uncompressed HD video streaming using our UltraGrid low-latency video transmission system.
